CBI Internal Organization

CBI is led by a director, Professor Sofia Börjesson (30% time), who is responsible for managing and governing Center operations in accordance with its stated goals, objectives and operational plan.
CBI has seven senior researchers that together constitute an internal scientific council:

  • Henrik Berglund, PhD
  • Joakim Björkdahl, PhD
  • Sofia Börjesson, Professor
  • Maria Elmquist, Associate professor
  • Sören Sjölander, Professor
  • Jan Wickenberg, PhD
  • Jonas Larsson, PhD

The internal scientific council will focus on ensuring continuous development in line with the vision and logic set out above. The scientific council will support the Center Director and fulfil the task of control and coordination.

CBI external organization

The director is supported by an external steering group which provides advice on strategy including decisions concerning planning, budget and annual reporting. The director reports to the steering group and has the main responsibility for successful implementation of its decision.
The steering group’s members have an interests and competences that allow them to assess scientific and practical relevance and include:

  • Anders Brännström, CEO Volvo Technology Transfer
  • Sofia Börjesson (Director, CBI), Professor, Chalmers University of Technology
  • Tomas Hellström, Professor, CIRCLE, Lund University
  • Charlotta Källbäck, Audit Manager, Volvo Car Corporation
  • Jonas Roth, founder and CEO Vindöga Management
  • Per Svensson (Steering Group Chairman), Head of Department, Dept of Technology Management and Economics
  • Örjan Sölvell, Professor, Stockholm School of Economics

Vinnova has attendance rights, i.e. the right to participate in meetings and have access to meeting documentation. The steering group meets twice a year

In addition to the steering group, there will also be an international scientific advisory board which will be in place by Autumn 2010. Its function overlaps with that of the steering group but includes advice on development of CBI’s research agenda.

Relation to Partners

The center for Business Innovation has during 2007-2010 been a co-financed center where Vinnova, Chalmers and partner firms were the key actors for providing the financial plat-form. The center was partly located at IMIT (Institute for Management of Innovation and Technology) and Chalmers, Department of Technology Management and Economics. The platform was complemented by a project portfolio with additional financial support. The faculty is all employed by Chalmers and the center is thus an integrated arena for research, education and business development.

From 2010 the partners are all the actors who collaborate in research projects. Thus, research and potential co-funding (in cash or in kind) are project-specific. There are no partners at Center level. Though, given that the projects are located within CBI, partners who collaborate in individual research projects are invited to participate in other Center activities, such as workshops, seminars, expert advice, web facilities, and company contacts.

CBI has strong connections with the Division of Innovation Engineering and Management at the Department of Technology Management and Economics; Division of Innovation Engineering and Management researchers work within the framework of CBI and are employed by Chalmers University. As a platform for research and business development, CBI is thus the main focus for the employees at the Division. The Division also has teaching assignments and all senior researchers and doctoral candidates are involved in undergraduate, masters and graduate education at Chalmers, which we as a research group are committed to delivering.
